Using augmented-reality (AR) in public spaces can be an uncomfortable experience for both players and bystanders. If we can’t make audiences comfortable we’ll never see widespread adoption of AR experiences. In this talk, we explore the problem of social awkwardness in AR, identify its underlying causes, and discover effective strategies to overcome it, ultimately paving the way towards building captivating AR games.
