In the last 10 years internet-enabled smartphones dramatically changed the way we interact with each other and the world. In the next 10 years Augmented Reality will enable disruptions which dwarf the past decade. The digitisation of the world is well under way and the lenses through which we are able to see and interact with it are rapidly improving. I can’t tell you when it will be ubiquitous, but I can tell you it’s inevitable. Today, and for the near future, the skills required to create in this new medium are primarily found among game developers.
I believe Aotearoa can, and should be, a world leader in AR. We can be a positive force, guiding the coming change towards equitable outcomes. In this talk I’ll attempt a rough map of some of the many elements involved in making this future possible, and why I think it’s important for us to try.
