We all talk about game balance in an abstract sense and how some games systems are or are not in balance. But we don’t often get into the nitty-gritty of what that means, making it difficult to find useful guidance when starting out. Join patty, a combat designer on action RPG Mortal Shell as she shares her journey learning how to balance a game in a genre with certain expectations. She will cover some of the things they learned through a lot of trial and error, with some practical examples on how they balanced the fine line between difficult and unfair in order to capture a Souls-like experience.
