August 18, 2022 from 2:50 pm to 3:20 pm

Speaker: Bart Klepka

Talk Description

What does it take to create a completely new language? Why and how would you do it? Having created a new spoken language specifically for Goblins of Elderstone, called Goblish (Goblin Speak), Bart Klepka will share his process from start to finish. He will discuss initial concepts and reasons for the idea, presenting how and why the language was built, including various references that were used. Bart will then show how he approached writing the script for the game, and all aspects of attaining the voice-overs – including casting and recording VO talent. To finish, he will showcase the final implementation – both technically through the audio engine, as well as final in-game results.

Talk Takeaways

Attendees will learn how through weaving multiple disciplines – including sound and voice design, voice actors, and narrative design – they can create something immersive and world-building for their game. Individual discipline ideas and techniques, as well as their synergies, will be discussed. Informative for audio and narrative professionals and enthusiasts, producers, and anyone else interested in a “thinking outside the box” approach to game design.
