The CODE Alumni Experience: A Practical View of Industry Acceleration

August 19, 2022 from 2:40 pm to 3:30 pm

Speaker: Vee Pendergrast, Henry Feltham, Mickey Treadwell, Stef Animal, Sam Barham

Talk Description

A lot gets said in our spaces about early stage games funding, incentives and industry development programs without much understanding or nuts-and-bolts experience of what it actually looks like from the perspective of the developers going through the programs, and their experiences.

This presentation would feature a live panel of developers communicating what it was like practically for them- the benefits and difficulties to get into and work with CODE NZ’s programs. We will be covering funding, workshops, skills development and opportunities.

Talk Takeaways

An insight into starting a video game studio from a business development perspective:
• How far grant funding gets a developer.
• What other measures does a studio have to take to get to sustainability.
• What are the limitations of government funding and what developers need further.
• Pathway from pre-production to launch- when business decisions need to be made.
