About the speaker
Thomas has been working as a gameplay programmer since 2005, first on console games in the UK, then several years developing mobile games at PikPok in Wellington. More recently he has worked on Magic Leap’s collaboration with Weta Workshop, where he worked on Dr Grordborts Invaders and several unreleased game titles. During this time he has collaborated with research teams and other development teams, creating new gameplay experiences based on meshing and other scene understanding technologies.
Following this, Thomas and a group of ex-colleagues formed NZXR where they worked on contract Mixed Reality projects for two years before being acquired by Niantic in 2022.
Thomas now works primarily as an Augmented Reality prototype developer at Niantic, although he still considers himself a gameplay programmer at heart.
